A Tidy Solution provides long term ideas that work and stick, helping make the living space comfortable and a place where you want to spend time.” — Lindy O.

Q. What is a professional organizer?
A personal or professional organizer provides ideas, support and information to help others meet their personal organizational goals. They teach clients how to sort through existing clutter and maintain systems to keep clutter from coming back. A good organizer will teach you the skills you need to stay organized long after they're gone.

Q. What is your service area?
I work within a 30-mile radius of Richmond, Maine. For destinations beyond this, I charge 50 cents a mile each way. I am also available for coaching over the phone or via email. See "online organizing" on services page.

Q. Are you going to make me throw out all my stuff?
Only if you want to! There are three steps to organizing: Sorting, purging and organizing. If you have clutter, you probably have items you could donate or throw away. Willingness to let go of items is important to the success of the project. Clients that insist on holding on to every item, and continue to shop for more will not stay organized for long. A Tidy Solution will provide assistance creating as much storage space as possible, but we often ask clients to keep only the items they need or love. The client is responsible for all final decisions regarding the disposal and donation of paperwork and belongings. I will make suggestions, but no, I will not throw anything away without your knowledge.

Q. Do I really need a professional, or can I go it alone?
If you are like most people, you have books on how to organize, stacks of magazines filled with tips to control clutter and unused storage bins. These items didn't solve the clutter problem and probably just added to the clutter in your home. When you hire a professional, you will receive one on one attention. A professional organizer will guide you through the organizing process and teach you the skills you need to stay organized. No one has the same storage or organizational needs. A professional organizer will custom design a plan to fit each, individual client.

Q. Do I have to be there while you're working?
Yes, the client must be present. By working together, I can teach useful organizing techniques the client will use long after I'm gone. The process of organizing will be easier and faster if client is there to make decisions about what stays and what goes. I am incredibly flexible with scheduling. I understand most people have a busy work schedule. I am able to accomodate most requests for an appointment. Keep in mind, appointments do fill quickly, and there is usually a 1-2 week wait for some slots.

Q. How much will it cost and how long will it take?
Projects are billed at an hourly rate. Project completion time will depend on the size of the job, client participation, and any additional services requested. Many clients find it easier to break the job into small, manageable tasks, so they don't "burn out". Intense "clutter busting" sessions are certainly also available.

Q. Do You have insurance?
Yes. A Tidy Solution is fully insured. A copy of our insurance policy will be provided for any client.

Q. Do you have references?
Yes. In addition to all the testimonials you see on the pages of our website, a list of references will be provided for any client.

Q. Do I have to buy supplies or do you?
One of the most common mistakes people make when they organize is to buy storage containers before they sort and purge. This results in wasted time and money. After we have completed the first steps of organizing, we will discuss storage solutions together. I will suggest products and where to purchase these items.

Q. Will you clean, haul trash, and take my mother to her doctors appointments?
No, no and definitely, NO. A Tidy Solution is not a cleaning service. While organizing, we will, of course clean as we go, making the organized area look its best. Arrangements must be made for trash removal by the client. A Tidy Solution is also unable to appraise items or sell items online. I would be delighted to teach clients how to sell on Craigslist or EBAY, and will provide information on any selling or appraisal services available.
